The issue of parental alienation affects countless families, creating deep emotional scars for both parents and children.

We at PAPA (People Against Parental Alienation) have been at the forefront of raising awareness about this critical issue.
We are set to light up the iconic Spinnaker Tower in green—a historic event that is more than just a beautiful sight.
It serves as a heartfelt tribute to all the parents and children who have experienced alienation.
By shining a light on this topic, we at PAPA seek to promote understanding and support in a situation that is often overlooked.
With only 3 days to go until we light up the tower for Parental Alienation Awareness Day on Friday 25th April, we thought we'd give a run down on why this event is significant.
The Impact on Alienated Parents and Children
Parental alienation occurs when one parent manipulates a child's perception of the other parent, pushing the child to reject that parent.
This often happens during high-conflict custody disputes, and the effects can be devastating.
Studies show that children of alienation experience heightened emotional distress, which may lead to issues like anxiety and depression.
For instance, 70% of children in high-conflict custody disputes report feeling conflicted about their loyalties.
The consequences of parental alienation can follow children into adulthood, impacting their relationships and mental health.
Adult children of alienated parents often feel isolated and struggle with trust issues.
It’s crucial to recognise this issue, not just for the families involved but for society as a whole.
Events like the Spinnaker Tower lighting aim to bring this critical conversation to the forefront.
The Choice of Spinnaker Tower
Selecting the Spinnaker Tower for this tribute carries significant symbolism.
This landmark in Portsmouth stands over 560ft tall, representing resilience and hope.
It is one of the largest landmarks in the UK and is the largest structure that can be fully illuminated as its stands a huge 220ft taller than the London Eye.
This will make it the world's largest tribute to alienated parents and children.
By illuminating it in green, PAPA aims to convey a powerful message: there is always the possibility for healing and connection, despite the challenges posed by parental alienation.
PAPA's colours have always been different greens and blues that fall under teal.
Green is often viewed as a colour of renewal, growth, and healing.
By choosing this colour, we not only use our brand colour but we at PAPA underscore that even amid struggles, hope exists.
It stands as a reflection of the potential for reconnection between alienated parents and their children.
Further to that, PAPA founder Simon Cobb is originally from Portsmouth and so it serves as an homage to the city that will always be connected to Simon and to PAPA.
Raising Awareness Through Illumination
The lighting of the Spinnaker Tower goes beyond being visually striking; it serves as a beacon of hope for many who feel alone in their battles against parental alienation.
With this event, we at PAPA hope to draw the public’s attention, including media and policymakers, igniting essential conversations about the effects of alienation.
Awareness is the foundation for change.
The bright green light shining against the night sky serves as a collective call to action.
Every individual who sees this display is prompted to consider the impacts of parental alienation.
This increased understanding can pave the way for necessary changes in how family courts handle these sensitive issues.
The Role of PAPA in Advocacy
PAPA has been a leading force in advocating for the rights of parents and children impacted by parental alienation.
Our mission centres on education and raising awareness about the negative effects of alienation and the factors that contribute to this abuse.
We provide vital resources, including workshops and support groups, to help mend broken relationships and encourage healthier family environments.
Through our initiatives, we at PAPA challenge misconceptions about parental alienation and advocate for policies that prioritise children’s best interests.
The lighting of the Spinnaker Tower is vital to our mission, creating a space for sharing stories, educating the public, and promoting healing.
Community Engagement and Involvement
This initiative has inspired community involvement from individuals and organizations alike.
Many have already come forward to share their experiences with parental alienation.
This grassroots support amplifies our message, showcasing a united front against the injustices faced by alienated families.
The upcoming lighting event is expected to attract a diverse audience, emphasising the collective effort needed to understand and address parental alienation.
Involvement from local businesses and community organisations demonstrates the widespread impact of this issue and the collaborative spirit required for change.
We have two pubs on The Hard, who are displaying our posters for members and followers to congregate before, during and after the lighting event.
For more information on the day please see here.
The Future of Parental Alienation Awareness
While illuminating the Spinnaker Tower marks a significant event in the fight against parental alienation, it is merely the beginning of an ongoing conversation.
We at PAPA aim to harness the momentum from this event to promote sustained dialogue among families and communities.
In addition to increasing awareness, it is vital to develop effective policies that prioritise children’s welfare while safeguarding fair parental rights.
As awareness grows, there is an opportunity for lawmakers to address shortcomings within the current legal framework that often overlooks the complexities tied to parental alienation.
We invite everyone reading this to join PAPA to help us continue to scale our efforts and bring real change.

A Symbol of Resilience
As the Spinnaker Tower shines brightly in green, it sends a strong message of hope, resilience, and unity.
This tribute organised by PAPA serves as a crucial reminder that awareness and education can lead to healing and understanding.
By shining a spotlight on parental alienation, we at PAPA encourage society to recognise the importance of nurturing healthy relationships between parents and children.
It urges everyone to consider how they can help create supportive environments that honour parental rights while addressing children's needs.
Ultimately, this tribute is an ongoing call to action, urging everyone to stand against the harms caused by parental alienation.
